Thieves in northern Mogadishu are having their hands and feet chopped off following the recent introduction of Sharia law. Aid agencies say the Islamic form of justice has been evident in the city for six weeks. The severe punishment is proving effective with reports of theft falling sharply. A videotape acquired by WTN shows young men - accused by the Sharia court of stealing shampoo, food, and clothes - being blindfolded and then having one hand or foot sawn off with a knife. The gruesome operation takes just seconds, after which bandages are wrapped around the bleeding limb stumps.
