This is a large, subfascial flank lipoma that was removed in the office under only local anesthesia. For this procedure, patient selection was very important. He was reasonable, reliable, and cooperative. More importantly, he was calm and not that anxious. The surgeon has had some patients with much smaller, much more simple procedures who had a very difficult time due to their anxiety or inability to follow simple instructions so they would not have been offered this type of procedure in the office. They would have been done in the operating room under conscious sedation or general anesthesia.
